CANOE GIRL CALLS END
TO BRIDAL BOUTIQUE JAPAN
|Canoe Girl Productions has decided to end its year
long run of Bridal Boutique Japan in February. The show, which primarily
focused on inspiring Japanese Wedding couples to travel to Hawaii to tie
the not, closed production late January.
Ryan Torres, CFO and executive producer of the show cited financial reasons for the cancellation of the show. “It got to a point where we were losing just too much money per episode,” Torres says.
The show ran into walls through production. At one time, the production was to feature at one time Japanese travel show host, Alice Inoue, and to include former Japanese model Runa Konta and model/actress Mami Phillips. Budget constraints eventually forced talent selections to one host, Mami Phillips.
“After September 11th, the market was just too soft for sponsorship,” Torres admits. “We cut corners wherever possible to break even. Then we just started to lose.”
The show proved triumphant regarding influencing overseas wedding decisions from Japan. But as successful as it was, the project received no help from the Hawaii Tourism Authority or the Hawaii Visitor’s Convention Bureau.
“We tried approaching each of them for money, even sat down with them in meetings. The loved the project, but that’s all they said,” Torres said.
According to Torres, Bridal Boutique Japan successfully closed the sponsorship of the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, but the amount that was given was too little too late.
“If HVCB or HTA would have stepped in, this
show would still be on air.”
